James Blake-Baldwin lays down a marker

James Blake-Baldwin laid down a marker at Oulton Park on Saturday with two wins from two to increase his lead at top of the points standings. With the Oulton double-header completing the first half of the season, James’ rivals cannot afford to let him get too far ahead as the second half of the campaign unfolds.

Blake-Baldwin started the first A group race from third place as Simon Goddard and Will Blackwell-Chambers locked out the front row of the grid with impressive performances in qualifying. However, their fortunes took a turn for the worst in the race, with both spinning out of contention. Blake-Baldwin held off a hard charging Brian Chandler to win with the returning Ben Short third.

The big news in the B group was Chris Hart winning his first BRSCC Mazda race! The 65-year old from Stroud earned his much deserved victory in a very tight scrap with Jake Simpson, with another returnee, Scott Leach, completing the podium.

The second A group race was much the same as the first with James Blake-Baldwin having to work hard for his win from a very persistent Brian Chandler. Johnathan JJ Clements maintained his championship title challenge with a third.

Following their respective spins in the first A group outing, Will Blackwell-Chambers and Simon Goddard found themselves demoted to group B for the second race. They both found a modicum of redemption, taking first and second, with just .225 seconds separating them. Michael Fisk was some eighteen seconds adrift of the lead pair in third.

The Driver of the Day Award went to Scott Leach who performed admirably following a year away from the championship. Following his third place finish in the initial B group race Scott was promoted to the A group for part two and finished a creditable fifteenth.

Jiri Horalek didn’t enjoy the most successful day, following his DNF in the second B group race, but he did leave Oulton with a free of tyres having won them in the competition where drivers have to predict the time of their fastest lap in both races. The closest driver wins and that man was Jiri.
