With just six rounds remaining, the BRSCC Mazda MX5 Championship probably has the best run-in of any championship in the UK. First up is Brands Hatch this coming weekend, which is followed by Donington Park before concluding on the Silverstone International

With 37 competitors so far signed up for the double-header event it will yet again see split grids to cope with the ever increasing numbers.

Tom Roche’s title aspirations appear to be back on track after his double win at Anglesey last time out which extended his lead to 36 points over his closest rival, James Blake-Baldwin.However Blake-Baldwin will hope to recapture his stellar performances from Cadwell Park and Snetterton. With a maximum of 606 points on offer until the end of the season, this championship still has a long way to go.

With all top 10 drivers in the current championship standings entered, there will be intense pressure on all of them to perform to the best of their ability. Local driver, Ed Gay, will certainly be hoping for better luck this time out, as despite two excellent drives in the first two races at Anglesey, an accident in the final race that resulted in extensive damage to his car will see him compete in a rental car from BS Motorsport this weekend.  Gay currently sits in 4th place and is only 14 points behind Brett Smith. However close behind him is Alex Preston (10 points) who is being chased by the ever improving Alan Henderson, a further 10 points back.

As with every event so far in the championship, we have yet again an influx of new competitors, not necessarily to Mazda MX5 racing, and it confirms that the BRSCC Mazda MX5 Championship is the place to race their Mazda MX5. Racing for the first time this season is Jade Edwards who will be looked after by Blendini Motorsport. Edwards is looking to compete in the remaining championship rounds and has already announced her plans for a full campaign in the 2014 championship. Another returnee to Mazda racing is Eduardo Rodrigues who returns under the awning of BS Motorsport. With his previous best result at Brands a 5th place, Rodrigues could be instrumental in the awarding of championship points to the top 10 contenders.

Looking to have the bragging rights in their local in Whitstable will be Kevin Dengate and Chris Lovett who make the short trip to Brands to pit themselves agianst the best Mazda MX5 drivers in the country. Brands Hatch will also see the Championship and Mazda debut for Jordan Albert who previously competed in the BRSCC Formula Ford Championship. His last venture in a Formula Ford was at Brands Hatch just 4 weeks ago and saw him finish in seventh place.  Another one to keep an eye on.
