BRSCC Mazda ready to rock Donington

With the number of competitors registered for the BRSCC Mazda MX5 Championship now well over 60, another 38 strong grid of competitors head north to Donington to compete in the penultimate event for the BRSCC Mazda MX5 Championship.

With the Mazda MX5 not having competed at Donington since 2011, spectators will once again be treated to the cut and thrust of the ever competitive Mazda MX5. With every driver (bar Ed Gay) in the top 10 places in the championship in attendance, this will ensure that the races will be as closely fought as ever.

Tom Roche will all but seal his championship title with a win in either race this weekend, but his nemesis throughout the season, James Blake-Baldwin, will try his damnedest to make sure he has to wait just a little longer. However, Blake-Baldwin will need to keep an eye over his shoulder as in third place in the championship and just 24 points behind him his Brett Smith. The battle for fourth is tighter still with just 8 points separating Alan Henderson, Ed Gay and Alex Preston. With Gay absent this weekend, both Henderson and Preston will be hoping to take full advantage.

As with the last rounds at Brands Hatch, the championship welcomes two new drivers to the party.  However, with both drivers having competed extensively in previous seasons in MX5s we expected that both Roger Chesneau and David Hart will get on just fine. With the track licence dictating a maximum of 36 starters, the championship will once gain revert to its split grid status with the faster driver competing in the “A” races and the slower half in the “B” races. However, with the last 5 in the A race and the front 5 in the B race swapping grid places for the second races, the battle to avoid relegation or get promoted is just as fraught as the front runners.

The provisional entry list is as below:
